Top 5 Thrifting Tips

I LOVE thrifting! It's fun, inexpensive and you can find the most awesome and unique things along with peace of mind that you won't see anyone else with the same exact thing. In a time of corporate vintage copycats it's great to know that what you have is most definitely one of a kind. The cool factor doesn't end there, thrifting is green, which adds bonus cool points to your coolness.

Thrifting can be overwhelming- racks and racks of endless clothing, endless possibilities. To make sure you get something that you really want and love you must first have a game plan. Here are some great tips to help your next trip go from stressful to successful.

1) Wear Something Yawn Worthy- The less interesting you look, the less interested people will be in what you're looking at. It sucks to have someone following you around inspecting what you put down- sometimes you want to go back and look at that same thing. My favorite outfit- Super basic jeans and a tee.

2) Go in With a Solid Plan-  So you want to find a shirt? Start in the tops section. It's the best way to go in, otherwise you may loose your focus. Start at one spot and work your way around.

3) You Don't Have to Look Through EVERYTHING! -  The best way is to slowly visually inspect what's on the racks- if there is a color, pattern or cut that you love pick it up and inspect it. This is the best way to find the coolest things!

4) Check for fit- Try things on, just to make sure they fit- it's the best way to make sure you don't waste your cash. Better safe than sorry.

5) Closely inspect your picks- So you've found your ideal top- you love the color and fit. Now you want to make sure there are no fatal flaws. Check for stains, rips and missing buttons or zippers. No flaws? Sweet! you have just purchased your favorite new (used) top!

Happy Thrifting!!

Fashion Featured and New Vintage

Hello all!

Recently we have decided to change the photos that we have on our shop. Instead of doing the usual catalog style, we have decided to shoot our merch outside to create more of an atmosphere. I love this new way of showcasing the clothes, it is a lot more natural although shooting outside is much more of a challenge at times.

The last shoot was so windy that most of the clothing shots didn't turn out, but luckily there were a few that made it yay! Our model, Mona, was fantastic!

We have actually had a great response; we were featured in this month's issue of Endorphinum ezine in the fashion section. Check it out!

Here are some more recent shots and clothing from Salon Mystique.

Spring 2010: drawing Vintage Inspiration

Thinking about fashion week boggles my mind. We are entering fall right now and spring collections are being shown, it will be 6 or so months until spring collections actually get shown to the masses. Staying on top of what is going on in fashion is fun and a great inspiration for me when I go vintage shopping. New collections inspire me when I am creating, I love taking influence from the shapes and colors that I see in fashion.

Fashion week started yesterday and there are only a few collections out to choose from so I am going to show you all my favorite vintage inspired outfits.

Vintage Inspiration

Elle Tahari Spring 2010

Yay jumpsuit! Have I mentioned before that I am a huge fan of the jumpsuit? Of corse, the jumpsuit gets most of it's inspiration from the 80's.

Vena Cava Spring 2010

This outfit is so 90's with the corset top and body con fit. Love the paint splatters, also super 90's.

Prabal Gurung Spring 2010

I love this one! It reminds me of a cross between the 40's and the 80's. The 40's because of the polka dots and length of this dress; the 80's because of the big huge bow on the neck. Very cool mix!

Organic By John Patrick Spring 2010

This is like a 1940's sundress. It looks like a perfect and easy dress to throw on for spring. Love the lavender flowers on a white background.

Monique Lhuiller Spring 2010

This Dress is a modern version of the 70's disco dresses; the biggest difference is the length of the dress, it is much shorter. I love how the sleeves are loose and draped, a great reinterpretation of the disco dress.

Organic By John Patrick Spring 2010

Definitely draws from the 80's with the high waisted pants and the gold loose top that accentuates the shoulders. Love!

About to Take Flight

This is a photo I took this weekend of a butterfly! I was so lucky to catch it where it was and I was so surprised that it didn't fly away.
